A favourite Fela recording that is a bit more ‘off-the-beaten-path’ than his super-popular hits. Some sedate Fela for anyone so inclined.

When I was about 15/16, I developed a love for the music of the great American singers of the great American standards, primarily Tony Bennett but also little Dean Martin.
My somewhat eclectic taste in musical is probably a direct result of my Mom: her CD collection (in the late 80s/early 90s!) had every thing from The Everly Brothers (I can still sing a large collection of their entire oeuvre by heart!), Fine Young Cannibals, to Vivaldi‘s Seasons and Louis Armstrong (of course the great Nigerian highlife standards too – led by Ebeneezer Obey & co).
My interest in the standards was piqued, oddly enough, by a number of 90s movies, which featured a number of American standards in their soundtrack. I must have watched the 90s film Fools Rush in with Matthew Perry and Salma Hayek 50 times, and given Dean Martin’s Ain’t That a Kick was in the soundtrack, I suppose it was inevitable it would become a favourite.
